Description
A stormy world girdled by broad swathes of deep jungle, Teth sits just Rimward of Hutt Space, and like many worlds in that area its history is closely tied to that of the great gastropods. Its rolling plains and jungle mesas are dotted with ancient Hutt palaces constructed by clan leaders seeking a vacation spot away from the intrigues of Hutt Space's kajidics. Some of those edifices were outposts built and later abandoned by the mysterious B'omarr monks, who established monasteries on a number of Outer Rim worlds between Teth and Tatooine centuries before the Empire's rise.
At the time of the Clone Wars, Teth had been temporarily abandoned by the Hutt clans, who'd endured a Republic crackdown on Tethan pirates and no longer found the planet a satisfying getaway. Separatist operatives kidnapped Rotta the Huttlet, son of the Desilijic crime lord Jabba, and tried to frame the Jedi Knights in the hope of giving the Republic down in a war with the Hutts and giving the Separatists unfettered use of key Hutt-controlled hyperspace routes. The plan failed when clone forces led by Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano stormed an abandoned monastery held by Asajj Ventress and rescued Rotta as Separatist and Republic warships clashed above the planet.
Working with the Republic, Teth's overmatched local constabulary tried to rid the planet of criminal gangs and mercenaries. Their efforts worked well enough for the Empire to make Teth the capital of the Baxel sector, which was given theoretical control of Hutt Space, and to pour credits into Teth in an attempt to make it a bulwark against the Hutts' schemes in the region. The Empire remade Teth as a middling agriworld, but the capital of Feron reeked, and established a naval base and small shipyard there.
The Hutts responded the way they always had to intrusions in their backyard: They made investments, found the levers of power, paid bribes, issued a few well-chosen threats, and soon controlled a thriving criminal underground in Feron and reaped a steady income from each Tethan harvest. Given all that, why kick about the occasional threatening Imperial missive from Teth's corrupt Moff? After the Empire's fall, the Hutts moved back to their steel-palaced palaces. The flood of Imperial credits, they agreed, had made Teth a rather more interesting place—and all without a Hutt having to lift a stubby finger.
